The unique festival happens annually on the 3rd weekend in July in Corvallis, Oregon. This festival is a blast for the whole family combining art, science, and technology. There's music, entertainment, creative contests, exhibits, and hands-on activities for all ages. For the best price, buy the weekend pass and don’t miss any of it. Free shuttles transport attendees to da Vinci events held throughout Corvallis. There is a film festival, a children’s village, many musical performers and speakers, and best of all, the Kinetic Challenge (a human-powered, all-terrain competition with road-worthy, mud-sloshing, water-slogging kinetic sculptures… seriously, not to be missed.)
The Festival is named for Leonardo da Vinci whose creative, renaissance genius spanned art, science, and technology. We are a right brain, meets left brain, random, quirky festival.
Citizen volunteers are the work force, many working year-round in Festival planning and organizing.
Our diverse array of events for all ages provide interesting activities across a multi-dimensional spectrum from innovative art contests to demos of pioneering advances in sustainable living.
Music and Spectacle
The diverse musical lineup includes evening Main Stage headline performers and non-stop daytime performances including street and stage performances, a poetry slam, and a high school battle of the bands.
The Kinetic Challenge, features moving works of art, pedaled by human power over a rigorous, all-terrain course by teams of fun-loving racers. These engineering marvels move in all kinds of ingenious ways, sculpted into all sorts of fantastic shapes—sea anemone, school bus, flying pink elephant, slice of cheese, yellow submarine—everything imaginable! And the racers and their pit crews are part of the art, decked out in costume and trying to out-compete each other in the entertaining show they put on for the spectators.
A Mini-kinetic sculpture competition, the Leonardo 500 is open to kids of all ages. They design and build small battery-powered vehicles tocompete on a racetrack with water and sand traps.
